One
of the exciting social initiatives
through Charis over the past few
years has been the development of
our Charity Shops called Hope. We
presently run two of them in Clifton
and the Meadows.
Hope
Charity Shop - Clifton
Situated at 30 Varney Road, Clifton,
Hope Charity Shop has been open for
five years and has just undergone
a major refit. Initially run as a
partnership project with Open Hands
- Nottingham, the shop is now owned
and managed by Charis and proves
to be a great success providing good
quality second hand furniture, clothes,
bric-a-brac books etc.
The shop has worked as an excellent
bridge between the church and community
and has not only raised the profile
of Charis Life but also given people
opportunity to talk about and discover
the Christian faith. If you have
chance to pop along to the shop you
will meet friendly staff and receive
a warm welcome.
Many satisfied customers have commented
about the atmosphere of the shop in
addition to the great goods and quality
service. Such is the reception that
lots of our regulars simply drop by
to have a chat
Hope
Charity Shop - Meadows
In October 2006 we opened our second
Charity Shop at 4 Bridgeway Centre,
The Meadows. Hope – The Meadows
is part of the Charis vision to bring
practical Christian care to local
communities, whilst at the same time
raising funds for our charity work
both at home and abroad.
‘After our shop in Clifton
proved successful we wanted to extend
to a new area and where better than
the Meadows’, says Jackie Kirkham,
the shops manageress, ‘and
so we were delighted when a shop
unit came available and immediately
applied to open a Charity shop there’.
Everyone who works in the shop has
been amazed by the warm welcome received
by local people and already we are
beginning to feel part of the community. ‘It’s
a real joy to work here the people
are so friendly and kind and there
is a great atmosphere in the place’,
said Jackie.
Since opening we have started to
take on new volunteers as well as
accepting good quality donations.
If you are in the area then do drop
by and pay us a visit, and if you
are looking for a new way to volunteer
and get involved in serving the community
then please get in touch. |
