Hi

Well I guess you are reading this because you are interested in doing a gap year.

Here at Charis Life Church we are passionate about reaching our community and the wider world with the fantastic and life changing message of Jesus. He has transformed our lives and we want to give others the opportunity to receive the same life transforming real faith that we have in Him.

So read on if you…

Are passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus with those in a local community

Are committed to spending the next year developing young people into all that they can be in God’s eyes

Are a team player motivated to inspire those around you to be all they can be and ready to learn from them.

Are teachable and wanting to be stretched and challenge in a supportive and loving environment.

If that sounds like you then spend a few minutes considering joining a vibrant and growing church on an ex-council estate in Nottingham to see if together, we can make the bible come alive in the lives of those around us and live the extreme life of love that Jesus calls us to.

At Charis Life Church we are passionate about people and we base our work around the people who we are involved with. In our internship we have four core values.

Passion - we are passionate about sharing our faith.

Passion is all about devotion and commitment to a cause and we are keen to make sure we communicate our faith in an accessible and relevant way.

Community - we are desperate to see our communities needs met.

Community is about a group of people working as a team to achieve an amazing place to live. The church should be a massive source of support, help, encouragement, training and faith for its community. This is our goal.

FlexiFit - we fit around who you are.

We know that in order to get the best out of our interns we need to know where their gifting is and what they are passionate about and so our internship is shaped around our interns. Rather than expecting you to fit into our mould, we are looking to find out how you fit with us and how we fit with you. This year is about serving and getting stuck into a local church but we will be listening to where your passion lies.

EveryOne - we make sure that you are looked after.

Jesus says, “love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important: love your neighbor as yourself.”

We want to help to ensure all of our interns live a balanced life of work, rest, health, exercise, spiritual input, mentoring and friendship.

There are various different practical options of an internship with the Basement Red team at Charis Life Church. These are some of the ideas we can offer at the moment but with FlexiFit there is the chance to suggest other alternatives that
we haven’t thought of yet.

Internship
This involves working with us full-time involved in the schools team as well as the children’s work and/or youth work plus doing your FlexiFit opportunity. In the first term we set you a project involving researching the local area and then
writing about the needs and we can meet those needs as a team. This project can be done about any aspect of the local areas needs. Your basic costs are all totally covered including housing, bills, food and other living costs.

NEW Post Graduate Internship
Our Post Graduate internship is a new initiative aimed at giving those who have already studied to degree level the opportunity to be stretched and challenged by our internship. On top of the internship provision and requirements Post
Graduate interns will also be involved in managing a small team of volunteers and setting up a new project within the church, This will be determined by the gifts and skills of each individual on the post graduate scheme. This course is
subject to the capabilities of the applicant.

Bible Study Course
You can also study alongside your internship or postgraduate internship and still receive the living support costs and full time intern status. Currently on offer is a one day a week distance learning course with Matersey Bible college. We offer
a limited number of subsidised places.

Part Time
There is the chance for some interns to do part-time internships alongside working or another placement. This is only available in some cases.

We want to support our interns in the highest possible way. Outlined below are some of the ways you will be supported in your year with us at Charis.

Support
We link up every intern on the course with a mentor at the church who meets up with you every month. The emphasis is on you to take advantage of this by arranging the times with your mentor but they are always there as someone outside
the team who can help and support. You will also have weekly meetings with Neil to support and develop you within your working and personal lives and then monthly meetings with Stephen Hackney (Pastor). There are lots of opportunities
to grow and be supported in your year with us.

Cell groups
Cell groups are a great place to meet people and build relationships. We have two young adults cell groups at present on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, we will place you in one of these groups which meet every week.

Socials
There is going to be plenty of time for socials to with a large group of young adults at the church you are bound to find a group that you get on with and there is always plenty going on for you to go to. Socials at church are also regular
and varied and on the team we have regular socials at least once a term.

Annual leave
As an intern, your holiday is split into a few different parts. You are entitled to twelve days (2 weeks) flexible annual leave over the year, with a maximum of three of these days taken as Sundays. We will also give you between Christmas
and New Year off. The internship finishes at the end of July leaving August free as well. You need to give reasonable notice for holidays and work with the school year and church commitments to plan in your holiday.

Housing
During your time working with us we will provide you with a house to live in on the Clifton estate. The Church will cover the cost of your rent and standard living costs, which will include bills, and a food allowance every week. This can be
claimed back with a valid receipt up to the amount stated by the Church (currently £20). This is for full-time interns although part-time interns will receive some of this financial support.

All workers must be police checked before joining the team
